Management Team

David Y. Phelps: David has served as President & CEO of CreoSalus since 2002. For over 25 years, his career has included significant management roles with large life science (medical device, drug and bio-tech) companies as well as starting life science firms and serving on the scientific advisory board of a number of medical device firms. After founding MedVenture Technology Corporation (an INC. 500 company), David served as its President & CEO from its inception in 1988 through 2001. He was recognized as an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award recipient. David has co-founded other medical device firms including CorNovus, InfraReDx and NexGenics. He has over 40 patents issued or pending and has successfully developed more than fifty life science products. David previously held manufacturing and product development positions at Boston Scientific Corporation and Baxter Healthcare. He is a graduate of Georgia Institute of Technology and Harvard Business School.

James E. Geisler: Jim joined CreoSalus as COO and CFO in 2010. For the sixteen previous years, Jim worked in finance and business development at United Technologies Corporation, a Dow Jones 30 company with over $50 billion in revenues. For four years he served as co-CFO with responsibilities for treasury, financial planning, mergers & acquisitions, and investor relations. Institutional Investor magazine twice named Jim one of the top three CFOs in the aerospace and industrial sectors. Jim is a Lexington native and earned a bachelor degree in business from the University of Kentucky and an MBA from Darden at the University of Virginia.

Vas Abramov Joint CreoSalus 2005, and became Director of Engineering and Manufacturing for Occam design in 2009. He has an established record of performance in multiple venture-backed and private investor-sponsored technology companies. Two of the companies have made the Inc. 500, including MedVenture Technology Corporation. Vas began his career at MedVenture as an engineer and lead several of the innovative medical device projects. Vas has numerous patents issued or pending. He is a graduate of the University of Louisville, with a B.S. in mechanical engineering and M.E. in engineering management.

Barry W. Simon, DVM: Before co-founding Thorn Biosciences LLC in 1998, Barry's career included private veterinary practice and several management positions including General Manager of Coolmore America (Ashford Stud and Creekview Farm) from 1984 to 1998. His affiliations include AVMA, AAEP, Controlled Release Society, CSU Orthopedic Research Advisory Board, Thoroughbred Club of America and the Keeneland Association. Barry holds a BA in Zoology from the University of Northern Colorado University and DVM from Colorado State University.

John Vanderburgh: John has been a consultant for CreoSalus, Inc. and Occam Design since 2007, providing legal counsel on corporate and intellectual property matters including patenting, trademarking and license preparations. He holds a BS in Chemistry, a JD law degree and admittance in the United States Patent Office, Kentucky Bar, State Bar of California and the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. With experience in analytical chemistry, patent preparation and prosecutions, license preparation and negotiations, and litigation, he is uniquely qualified to guide clients through the process of organizing, obtaining and protecting intellectual property.
